At Khaki Li A. Shlonsky, S. Dror, K. Simonov (Russian) Russian (from a site visitor:) As an Israeli expat I hold this song dear because it is a harrowingly good example of Israel's very nearly violent sense of beholdenness to its fallen, this sense personified in the ghostly exhortation of the missing warrior. This is one of my favorite songs from what the Russians call the "Great Patriotic War." The composer was Matvei Blanter, a Soviet Jewish songwriter (he also wrote the music to "Katyusha"). . .

DIVA Zvika Pik Hebrew I believe "gdola mehachaim" simply means "the best, greatest". "Bigger than life" is a literal translation. "Yesh ksamim" means "miracles happen" or "there are miracles", but not "magic" "She is the queen of the stage" would be a better lyrical translation of what the singer meant by "the stage is all hers". "Teras of life" shold be "tears".
Darknu Hadag Nafash Hebrew This is a beautiful song. "There was a storm, and it has passed, And your face is again as calm as the surface of the sea." isn't it "With the light we will continue to go on," and not "with the added light we will go on"? "The road is long and the journey not simple." "And your eyes are sometimes so touching." (isn't it ko nog'ot?) -------------------------------------------------------- MY COMMENTS: I have put a translation of Darkeinu on www.hebrewsongs.com/d.htm, which is a little different from this one and more correct. There are many mistakes here. First of all, the title is "Darkenu" or "Darkeinu", not Darknu. It's Hebrew, not English, and should be listed as Israeli-Contemporary. Rather than repeating my translation here, please go to www.hebrewsongs.com/d.htm, where you can also see the Hebrew text. The song comes from the soundtrack of an Israeli TV show, Haburganim, and is sung by Sarit Vino-Elad and Chani Firstenberg. There's a CD of the soundtrack. - Malka Yes, it is "with the light we will continue to go on" "And the road is long; the journey is not yet over." "ko nog'ot" means so sad - v'einayich lif'amim ko nog'ot - "And your eyes are sometimes so sad"

Lu Yehi Naomi Shemer Naomi Shemer Hebrew If you have the translation, please put it in, i am in desperate need for the translation ------------- let's go ------------------- Still the white sail in the distance, against black and heavy cloud. All we ask is: let it be. And through the windows of the evening festival candles flicker. All we ask is: let it be. Let it be, let it be, O please let it be. All we ask, let it be. What answering voice do I hear? The voice of a shofar and the voice of drums. All we ask is: let it be. May you also hear among all these one prayer from me. All we ask is: let it be. Within the small shadowed neighborhood is a small house with a red roof. All we ask is: let it be. It is the summer's end, the end of the road; let them return here. All we ask is: let it be. And if suddenly, the light of a star will shine from the darkness upon our heads, all we ask is: let it be. Then, give calm and also give strength to all those whom we love. All we ask is: let it be. If tidings come to the door, give a good word. All we ask is: let it be. "If you decide to die," she asks, "from the blossoming or from the harvest?" All we ask is: let it be. -------- have a nice day ------------------- Let it Be There is (still) a white sail in the distance (horizon

YIH'YE TOV (NEW TRANSLATION) DAVID BROZA STU LEWIS (TRANSLATOR) Hebrew I hope that I have been true to the spirit of the song. As I see it, the affirmation "It will be good" is a very tentative one, and I tried to capture that. My translation makes explicit what I believe to be the connection between the two halves of the chorus. The word "lo" in verse 1 may not seem idiomatic, but I believe the original is making a reference to "Song of Songs," and I was trying to preserve that. PS. I have heard many times a different version that is about Saadats Visit to Israel... Samuel Cohen Bavid Broza added verses as history unfolded. There is a verse about Sadat's trip to J-lem. The main problem translating this song is the wonderful double-meanings don't survive. isnt there also verse- "just let's get out of territories" but if this was translated than it's been erased.- YohananW. hey Stu, you came really close on most off it. some of your ideas are just bueatifull. i translated this song a while ago. i don't know if you're a native hebrew speaker, but you really did a nice job. mm
