Translated lyrics
The official interpretation of the ballad is as follows: Sitting at the window the proud Gallarda sees a knight. She invites him for the night, but he is clever. He discovers the heads of his predecessors in the chimney, but Gallarda claims that they are heads of pigs. In the night he discovers a dagger in the bed that Gallarda tries to reach for. He is prepared and stabs her. So he does not only saves his life, but does also a good deed <br> The inofficial interpretation is different: It was a plain murder to be hushed up by the story above. At midnight Gallarda does not look for a dagger, but for a more pleasure bringing thing that unfortunately he could not offer to her. Therefore Gallarda laughs at him, and this was too ashaming for him. He murders her and invents the story with the human heads to conceal that it was murder. The heads in the chimney were indeed from pigs.
Notes
Gallarda - A romance on machismo from the northern Spain with two different interpretations.
