The best and most spiritual version of this well known Jewish song I have ever heard. It is not very long but it is very powerful. It is from a new age CD titled "American Jew" by recording and performing artist Jeff Janning and sung by him and his wife Terri and accomoanied on Accoustical guitar. I first heard this song when he (Jeff) was on his Mitzvah tour in 2000 and preformed at Jewish Community Center Orland |

This song can be found in a book called "A Treasury of Jewish Folklore". Sent in in response to a request for lyrics to this song for a baby naming ceremony.
This song is the Ei Lu Lu from above I think. My grandmother sang it to me often. Kindermusik uses the English translation in their infant program. I am adding it.
A recording of this lullabye can be found on an album by the Malavsky Family, re-issued on CD as "The Malavsky Family Sings Yiddish." Recorded under "Lulinke mayn feygele," the song begins with 3 verses of "A Mol iz Geven a Myseh" and ends with "Shluf mayn feygele". -a beautiful rendition of both lullabies! |

This is a song of the Vilno ghetto, referring to Ponar (Panerai in today's Lithuania), a slaughter site during World War II. An eleven-year old boy Alex Wolkoviski wrote this prize-winning melody in a ghetto contest. Wolkoviski, presently Tamir, is a composer in Israel. |

Like many of Warshawsky's songs, there's a bit of gentle kidding going on; the singer, a self-described poor little Jew who only wants to celebrate simchas torah with a little song and a little glass or two of wine gets progressively drunker as each stanza progresses.
The Klezmatics have a wonderful version of this song, a portion of which is linked here. The usually non-vocal members of the group each sings a stanza, very possiby with the aid of the wine mentioned in the song. |

The reason the song cannot be found with a search engine is indeed the spelling. I found a neat site, which also contains a midi of the song:

I learned the song on highschool, and it is so fresh, i never forgot it. Thanks to this site, I found the complete text that enabled me to find more about it.
-----------------------------------------------------------
This was listed mistakenly as a German song and the spelling of the name was wrong. It is "Simi Yadech", Put Your Hand in Mine", an Israeli children's song. There is an Israeli children's dance done to the song.
Words are: Simi yadech beyadi, Ani shelach ve'at sheli. Hey, hey, Galila, bat harim yefeifiya. Put your hand in mine, I am yours and you are mine. Hey, hey, Galila (girl from the Galil), beautiful girl of the mountains. |

Hey ya |
English |
Intro: This is a song, that uh, theres alot of Xmas songs out there, but not too many about Hanukkah, so I wrote a
song for all those nice little Jewish kids who dont get to hear any Hanukkah songs--here we go...
Put on your yarmulke, here comes Hanukkah
It's so much fun-akkah to celebrate Hanukkah,
Hanukkah is the Festival of Lights,
Instead of one day of presents, we have eight crazy nights.
When you feel like the only kid in town without a Xmas tree,
Here's a list of people who are Jewish, just like you and me:
David Lee Roth lights the menorrah,
So do James Caan, Kirk Douglas, and the late Dinah Shore-ah
Guess who eats together at the Carnegie Deli,
Bowzer from Sha-na-na, and Arthur Fonzer relli.
Paul Newman's half Jewish; Goldie Hawn's half too,
Put them together--what a fine lookin' Jew! [Esus]
You don't need Deck the Halls or Jingle Bell Rock
'Cause you can spin the dreidl with Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock--
both Jewish! [Esus]
Put on your yarmulke, it's time for Hanukkah,
The owner of the Seattle Super sonic-ahs celebrates Hanukkah.
O.J. Simpson-- not a Jew! But guess who is...Hall of Famer--Rod Carew--(he converted!)
We got Ann Landers and her sister Dear Abby,
Harrison Ford's a quarter Jewish-- not too shabby!
Some people think that Ebeneezer Scrooge is,
Well, he's not, but guess who is: All three stooges. [Esus]
So many Jews are in show biz--
Tom Cruise isn't, [tacit] but I heard his agent is. [Esus]
Tell your friend Veronica, it's time you celebrate Hanukkah
I hope I get a harmonica, on this lovely, lovely Hanukkah.
So drink your gin-and-tonic-ah, but dont smoke your mara
juanic-ah,
If you really, really wanna-kah, Have a happy, happy, happy, happy Hanukkah! |
The International (Hebrew) |
|
) |
Hebrew |
L'Internationale (The International) was a revolutionary song that emerged in connection with the development of the working class
movement in late nineteenth-century France. The words are by Pottier (1871) and the music by Degeyter. L'Internationale has since come to be
associated with all communist movements, and is still sung standing with fist clenched to symbolize working class solidarity. This Hebrew text can be found in a collection of songs called
"Shirei echad bemai" Ed. by N. Nissimov and S. Kaplan. |

This song was first taught to me in my Brooklyn elementary school, Bais Yaacov D'Rav Meir, back in the 1960s. The tune is hauntingly beautiful in it's sad yearning. I still remember hearing it in High School (the Bais Yaacov that was on 18th avenue in Boro Park) but it's been nearly 25 years since then and I can't remember all the words of the second stanza. If anyone does know them, please fill in the words and email me! ([email protected]) |
